To save on having two separate traps you can get kits that link the waste outlets from both sinks together to take them to a common trap:

If you replace the trap you might want to look at a P trap or S trap - apparently the bottle traps are more prone to blockages.0 -

A flat I used to own and rent out always had a nasty pong in the bathroom. I could never work out where it was coming from until I ripped it all out to replace. Some previous eejit had plumbed the cistern overflow with a short section of pipe straight across into a hole he'd cut into the soil stack (it was all boxed in so not seen).
Warm sewer smells used to vent straight into the cistern above the water line and out into the room. Had been like that for yearsSignature on holiday for two weeks0
