Paying off entire balance each month

Hi,

I want to get a new cash back credit card but have heard that some only allow you to set up a direct debit for the minimum payment and not the full balance each month.

Does anyone know if any of these cards allow you so pay off (using a direct debit) the full balance each month without having to vary the direct debit amount manually each month?

Platinum Cashback Credit Card
Barclaycard OnePulse Credit Card with Cashback

thanks
Jonathan

    Who told you that?

Never had a problem with credit card direct debit for the full amount with any provider over the years. Think someone's giving you duff information.

I've never heard of it being a problem, either. Can you ring them and ask them?

I've heard of people not being able to select full payment in the application process but you can always ring up and speak to them directly to set it up.

Thanks everyone, I read it somewhere (I think it was an old article in the Telegraph) and just wanted to check.

I will phone them to confirm.

    I'm a longstanding Barclaycard customer.
You can arrange to pay your statement balance in full by direct debit. It's not a problem.

Btw, if you ring B'card Card Services on 01604 234234, you'll avoid the overseas call centre and the perishing 0870 numbers ;)

Sorry, but you seem to be confused what Direct Debit means.
Direct debit is fully operated by the provider. You cannot manualy change it every month. All you can do is to set it up and cancel it. The order for payment is then issued by provider.

Thanks for that, phoned them earlier and had difficulties being understood so appreciate being able to avoid them.

Some CCs only let you set up a minimum payment online, and you have to ring them if you want full payment, but I don't know of any that don't let you do full payment period.

I always call up to confirm that the full payment has been setup for cards that I want to cleared up each month after one instance with Tesco credit card where I had marked full payment on the direct debit form but still only the minimum amount was taken. I discovered this the day after the payment was taken and called up to ask why which resulted in several long drawn out conversations to finally prove what I had requested and not be hit with interest charges. One learns from experiences!
