The problem we have is that the amount of energy used to transmit the data down the grid will have to be huge in order to overcome losses over distance etc, just because the government have decided to scrap the shortwave broadcast radio does not mean that it is ok for to shaft the Radio Ham/Shortwave Listener at the same time.
Call this a democracy? I think not.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

With so few HD broadcast and planned to be broadcast, you could say we all have the wrong TV equipment, the best way to display an SD signal is on an SD TV. You could argue about bluray players, but even most dvd are still sold as SD. Now people have to put up with blurry SD pictures displayed on HD TVs.

Because the vast majority of people are shortwave radio listeners, as opposed to the tiny minority who are internet users.

40% of UK homes and businesses in the next three years sounds like quite a lot to me.

How many are receiving it down their power lines?

    Or through your plumbing.

    It's a "largely sanitary" process!
