Ive already stated that I always pay for my kids to go on their school trips & there was only this particular instance where I needed financial assistance due to the expense of moving house last month.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

As far as I can recall, nobody has said children are excluded from trips for not paying (one maybe?)
A few have said it should happen but most of us know, and have said, that schools simply have to cancel the trip if not enough parents contribute.
So, I am pretty sure nobody has given misleading advice...0 -
I think it is hysterical when people talk about putting a small amount away every week for trips. People have mentioned sums like 20p per week. In the 7 years at senior school my kids have brought home letters for
Year 7 residential trip - sort of get to know you trip I think it was in the region of £180
French and German exchanges - in the region of £250 plus entertaining the other student on return visit.
Trips to EuroDisney?
Battlefields trip to WWI battlefield sites
Ski-ing trip (about 3 each)
Trip to Russia
Trip to South America
Trip to South Africa
Residential in Wales (£350 for 6 days)
All of these times 2 as 2 children involved except the Wales trip as daughter was doing different subject to her brother so not relevant.
Lots of others that I can't remember now. Before anyone dies of shock my two went on some, but not all trips. They also worked/saved to contribute to some)
I haven't included the day trips, I haven't got that long to live but have included things like Alton Towers at about £40 quid plus spending money and food.Sell £1500

How can parents expect the education dept to fund trips
they have a limited budget, would it be better if the schools just didn't do any field trips at all, and all the kids could be kept in the classroom behind their desk.

Pipkin 71 that is how it is sold to us parents, it is educational either behavioural or communication, thing is at age 12 and absolutely no form of communication I think we can safely say it isn't working and could we please try some 1-1 techniques that do have studies to prove their efficacy, pretty please, if it isn't too much trouble.
I better stop posting now before I become as unpopular here with any teachers as I am at my sons school:lipsrseal

Edited to add - Thinking about it, if benefits were enough to finance the sort of trips offered to my two I would be amazed. I am sure benefit system is not supposed to support children jet setting round the world like Posh and Becks. I have never been to South America, South Africa or Russia although I work hard, have a decent income and my home bought and paid for.Sell £1500

The first reply on the thread from dmg24?
The OP said the letter says the entire trip is dependent on every parent paying the voluntary contribution.
It has been stated throughout this thread that they can cancel the trip but they cannot exclude one child.
A good part of the debate has stemmed from people with money saying they won't pay because they don't have to and the impact this decision could have on the entire group if the trip is then cancelled.
Posters are very aware of the way it works and I think perhaps you need to read the whole thread before insinuating the OP has been misled or given incorrect information by the 'other posters'.
Kind of implies it is only yourself who has given the correct information, don't you think? It comes across as arrogant in fact.0 -

This is particularly true when 3 months ago you were able to post
"My hubby and I paid off our 115k mortgage in 4 years. It was bloody hard work but so worth it.
Now we have a new major outlay though - kids school fees  ."
The mortgage was paid off before we had kids, through bloody hard work. Whilst pregnant with our first child domestic violence began. He regularly beat me to a pulp. In the end he took most of the money we had. Im now struggling as a single parent raising 2 traumatised kids by myself.
You complete !!!!ing !!!!!! for trying to make me look wicked when you dont know the whole picture.

Im so sorry Sarah, I don't know what is wrong with some of the people on here, I was lead to believe that this was a forum designed to help people not put them down.
I don't understand why everyone has to be so suspicious all the time, most of us are genuine who need advice but are treated like we are on trial.
Just ignore the maliciousness, we are not all like that.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.
