Change of name on title deeds

OK here's one for you...........

My Partner lost his mother 5 years ago and then lost his Nan last year, We have since been living in their family home for the past year (The house is paid for in full by his family so there is no morgage). He split from his wife 2 years ago and she has just put in for a divorce. She claims she does not want anything from the divorce so it looks like we will get to keep the house to ourselves.
How do we go about changing the name on the deeds to His and not his grandparents? We are both un-employed so we don't have much spare money. Also we don't know who holds the original deeds as there is no other living relatives to ask - does this make any difference ?

I hope you can help me somewhat !

Many thanks in advance

was the house left to him?
has the estate gone through probate?

i think you will need to clarify who owns the house now
and possibly speak to a solicitor
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • hi i inherited a house along with my two brothers. i want to buy them out which is all goin ok the problem is how many time do deeds need to be changed? brothers have been granted probate but does my name need to appear on deeds to prove i own a third of house, at the moment it is still in my mothers name, we have agreed on a figure but my third is to be used for a deposit and i dont know how to prove that i have a share .

you will defo need a solicitor to represent your interest in all this. Families fall out every day over "split inheritances" and you need independent advice

Probate is the process by which all the deceased's assets are passed on to those named in the will. The executors do that and they should have transferred the name on the deeds. Your OH should contact the executors first.
