Adding a dvd writer to a Dell computer

I want to add a DVD writer to my computer so that I can backup all of my songs/films etc.
I've got 2 Dell computers, the first is a 3000 and the second is a 1100
The first computer has a cd writer and the second has just a dvd rom. I want to add a DVD writer to the computer that has the cd writer as it gets the most use.
I'm thinking about this Pioneer DVR-111DBK unit on ebuyer. Would it be suitable? or can you suggest a better drive for the money (£30)?
Also would it then be possible to replace the dvd rom in second computer with the cd writer from the first?
Hopefully the above won't have confused you as much as it confused me!

Yes to all of your questions, as long as you have the minimal requirements
set out by your drives in conjunction with the Operating System.

Yes, just be aware that it may be a bare drive with no writing software included, XP should be ok though.

I've fitted both the LG4163 and the NEC 4550 to my Dell 3000. Dead easy, plug it in when the computer is off! Just make sure the jumper at the back is set(slave or Cs), think i set mine to slave.
I have found that my secondary drive copies slower though, not sure why, used the Nero speed test tool.0 -
Hi
Fitting a dvd drive to the Dell is very easy, just make sure your jumpers are set correctly, it takes about 5mins.
I personally like NEC drives, excellent burners and no coasters this one even writes to ram, for £30
