I filled the car full of petrol this morning. The petrol station was quiet with just me and one other car. I walked in to pay, said "Good Morning" picked up some mints, which the guy scanned. He told me how much the total cost was, I didn't take much notice (cos, generally you don't) and paid with my card.
It wasn't till much later today that I have realised he charged me for another pump.. ie.. I have paid £7...something.. instead of £37...something.
He never asked which pump I was using.. I assumed as there were only 2 cars and he was looking out of the window, he would have a idea!
I feel I should go back... as I am a pretty honest person... what would you do???

They will likely have your registration. Whether they would pursue their own error is another matter.0

In that situation, say nothing. If they contact you asking for the money, pay it. Simple really.
Think of it from the other angle, if they'd charged you £37 instead of £7 and you went back, would they give you the money back without question? I seriously doubt it.
Plus, remember, the same applies to petrol as it does to any other goods. Once you have taken the goods and the cashier asks for the money and you pay it and they accept it. That's it. A binding contract is formed which cannot be broken.
It's the same in cases where supermarket items have been wrongly priced, once you've gone through the tills and paid, that's it, The cannot come back to you for more money later.0 -

How honest is keeping something you know you haven't paid for?Poppyfields5 wrote: »...He told me how much the total cost was, I didn't take much notice (cos, generally you don't) and paid with my card...
In future, always check the amount charged.
Next time you might only dispense £7 worth of fuel and try to be charged for a pump that has dispensed £37 worth. Would you think of going back then?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
