New Deal/new start, claiming for things

Hi

Got an interview later in the week and have been told I can claim for some new shoes, any idea how much?

Been given a list of stores I can go into, told to find some shoes, tell them I am claiming from new deal and they will give me a form to take back to job center, they will stamp it, I then return to shop give them form and collect shoes!

As job is in another town can I claim my travel to interview costs?

Thanks

Yes you can claim travel costs to interviews. It depends on where you live how it's paid, but in London applicants are generally issued with 1 day travel cards to attend interviews.

Don't know about shoe costs, I did have a friend who got help with new suit & top, shoes & a haircut for interviews when she was out of work. When she got job she was given help to buy another suit & top so she'd be presentable to start off in new job. Have a word with your advisor at the job centre to see if there is anything else you may qualify for.

    Good luck at interview.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

You can claim for more than just shoes you can claim for a whole new suit, if its good enough for MP's to claim multi thousands for things its ok for you to claim a few hundred pounds for things you DO need.

You can also claim for a mobile phone if you don't have one as this is classed as a barrier to work if you don't have a phone.
    Owed out = lots.

    Two things...

ADF (Adviser Discretionary Fund) is just what it says, discretionary. It's not a right. If an adviser thinks clothing/shoes, etc will improve your job prospects or if you have a definite interview, you may be given help. This can be up to £300 per year. Usually, advisers prefer to give you an invoice to take to contracted shops. You get the goods and give the shop the invoice. This is preferred to cash/receipts.

TIS (Travel To Interview Scheme) is to give you help if you have a job interview that is outside of daily travelling distance (say 20-30 miles or over). This can be a travel card for trains or a set mileage rate for cars.

With my friend, her interviews were in central London, all within a distance of under 5 miles to her home, so perhaps it depends on where you live as to whether job centre advisors issue bus tickets & travel cards?

Yes, it's not really set in stone, I don't think.
