The HALIFAX are charging me for MY MONEY!

I have just recently bought a car and as one does decided to pay for it with a bankers draft.
It makes more sense nowadays rather than carry £5k in your pocket in cash.
Furthermore go to any bank now and cash of that amount has to be orderd in for you.... with a 48 hour wait
I could have paid with a personal cheque but would have had to wait for it to clear before I could drive my new car away. (An issue all within its self)
So bankers draft it was.. BUT
The Halifax are charging £10 for this service..
In essence they are charging ME for MY money.
So needless to say I have written a complaint letter to the head of Halifax PLC and I'll see what they say.
any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Ultimately I may need to close the account/mortgage/savings account etc in protest
is it just me or does anyone else think this is wrong.

This is standard procedure as far as i know. Once (when dealing with a smaller amount of £) the cashier told us to do it in cash cos she knew it was a rip off!"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0

Yes its standard for all banks to do this because it also gives a certain guarantee to the person who gets the bankers draft that you had that cash in your account otherwise you wouldn't have the draft.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650

But the charge is just another BS way of making MORE money from the person that has been banking with them, while they have been gambling their savings on the stock exchange!"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0 -
Well, they said they would...thedjej wrote:The Halifax are charging £10 for this service.

No, they're providing a service, and charging a fee for it.In essence they are charging ME for MY money.
Why?So needless to say I have written a complaint letter to the head of Halifax PLC and I'll see what they say.
A little OTT isn't it?Ultimately I may need to close the account/mortgage/savings account etc in protest0 -
They may charge for the service but all banks do it and most charge more than the Halifax Natwest and RBS I believe charge £12 and your not forced to use a bankers draft so I don't see it as been an unfair charge if you have a choice.
OK I don't agree with banks charging for the service but they are out to make money just like all businesses are.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650 -
that is why i use nationwide. they provide a building society cheque which is acceptable to anyone accepts a bankers draft and it is free
if you have a building society account, it is worth a try. otherwise, bear the cost and pay 10 quid for it. dont go for cash as it is not worth the risk even though you feel cheated.0 -
But you have options;
take cash - your risk
pay by cheque - wait until it has cleared
give notice - withdraw £5k
use bankers draft - pay £10
It's not that they are saying the only way you can have this money is by paying us to give it back to you. They are offering a service that provides different selling points.

Oh those nasty nasty banks. They look after your money, give you interest on your savings, provide lots of staff and branches, provide one of the most competitive banking services in the world and then have the cheek to charge you for providing an extra service.
They should be a charity!
I'm going to put all my money in a big box under my bed - that seems like a much better thing to do and at least I won't have to pay someone £10 for providing a valuable service.
And while I'm on the subject......
90p for a litre of petrol? Why can't I run the car on milk?
Mortgages, what is that all about? Why shouldn't I be able to live in a house interest free?Smile
, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.0 -
