Hi, I hope someone can offer some advice.
We've concluded missives (we're in Scotland) for a Redrow house which we were due to move into on Friday. we were told last week that it would be delayed due to a structural beam being missing from the house that they had to put in.
At first we were concerned at the delay as we had to be out of our own house at the end of the month and Redrow had said it would definetely be ready in June. Because of this they have offered to pay our rental costs.
However, aside from the issue of the delay we are now getting worried about the changes to the house. We are having a huge beam put in that isn't in any of the other house which means that we are going to have boxing in at our ceiling as well as a shortened door to a cupboard in the kitchen. It is along side other doors and I think it will look strange for this to be smaller.
Separetly I'm unsure of the damage that's been caused to the house as the house had to go up on stilts whilst they put the beam in.
Can anyone advise me of whta they would do in our situation - we really dopn't want to pull out as we have nowhere else to go but I think the house is sub-standard now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Sorry dont know how scottish law works , but if possible I would run a mile from this property.0

Speak to your solicitor and tell him/her you want to run a mile from it.
Your solicitor will know what you signed for, and what get-out clauses (if any) Redrow have relating to alterations post-deposit, and post-missives.
In my view, you're not getting the house you asked for, nor the house you ordered, and it sounds like this could be classed as a 'material change' to the construction. There was another similar thread around here about 2-3 mths ago, don't know how that one worked out.

Can anyone else offer any advice?
We don't really want to pull out. Do you think we're entitled to compensation?0 -

Either accept what's happened, move in and live happily ever after, or speak to your solicitor about pulling out!0 -
To be honest you have done well to get them to pay for your rent - most builders will not commit to a due date and are not contractually obliged to provide alternate accomodation.
As others have said - you need to speak to your solicitor asap.0
