    Hi,

You have done brilliantly with everything so far. Good luckw ith carrying on paying it off and with the uni course.

I left uni a year ago and as far as I know the payments are still three times a year, if you budget though you will be fine.

    Hi!

Good luck with the teacher training! I'm in the same boat, but on a 3 year course :)

And Wendz is right, the student loan payments are 3 times a year.

Keep up all the good work you've done so far in reducing your debt :T

BR is Basic Rate which means you get charged a flatrate on all of your earnings
a normal tax code would be 609L which related to the amount you can earn before you start paying tax i.e £6090 so you can earn a lot more before any deductions get taken (so you will have less).

You should find out which HR Revenue and Customs is asigned to your company (the HR team should tell you this) and speak to them - the most likely thing they will do is adjust your tax allowance for the rest of the year so you pay less - unless it's already in the new tax year and then they may be able to give you a refund!

Anyway offtopic "crap_with"_money" not living up to the name! Glad it;s going well - keep going :-)

  • Gattina - I thought because it was a second job that I would be charged Base Rate - is that wrong? Obviously up until now - my tax free allowance (which was actually in the minus figures because of the damn cars!) was used up on the full-time job?

Zigmeister / Wendz - thanks for that, that's how it was when I was at uni the last time round too. If that's the case, I think I'll just transfer it all into a separate savings account, then pay myself a monthly "wage" from it - that way I won't be able to overspend on it! (Or that's the theory anyways! ;):D)

Emms - Hi! :hello: Glad you found me - wouldn't quite be the same without you! :D Gattina's beaten me to it with the exp on Tax - starting a new job is always rubbish though, the taxman seems to take forever to catch up with what's going on!!

Raini - Yeah - it definitely helps getting it all down on "Paper" - although there's still a gazillion things going on in my crazy brain - I honestly just have no patience at all, I'm so impatient to get the next couple of months over to get my finances settled again and get cracking on managing my money properly! (Is that really sad?!)

Thanks for all the positive wishes everyone! :D It's nice to know there are some folks popping in for a read! I'll try think if some entertaining nonsense to be getting up to to keep you all entertained - and if I can't do that - I'll make it up! ;)

  • Me again!!! (Funny that - what with it being my diary and all that! ;))

OK - so the challenges I'm going to set for myself:

    1. Take up ebay as soon as I get back from hols (and I mean selling - not buying! :p) I have 5 whole weeks when I get back before I start uni, so might as well try make a little extra cash, and have a clear out whilst I'm there!
    2. Start the "£2 coin" challenge again - I started at the beginning of the year, then got to about £30 and spent it - I will only save the £2 coins I legitimately get though, I'm not going to actively seek them out, since that's kinda cheating! :naughty: And I'm going to put them in my Terramundi (SP?) pot - so I can't give in and spend them before it's full and worth breaking! I've started the fund off with a shiny £2 coin tonight!
    3. Start again with my own version of the NSD challenge, instead of NSD's - I'm going to aim for MSD's (minimum spend days), where I'll aim to have every day an MSD - since if I broke NSD's in the past, I'd sometimes think it was ok on that day to then waste money on frivolous stuff!
    4. Find out how to download Word onto my swanky new netpad - so I can get set up again with my lovely spending spreadsheets - all is just not right with the world if I don't have my spreadsheets up and running!

And I think that's enough for tonight - I'm sure I'll think of a few more though! ;)

Oh another thing before I go though, I forgot to add my bro's wedding pressie to the list of "to buy" things - how much is an appropriate amount to spend on these things?

    xx

I'm exactly the same! My brain is always on the go! Usually about nothingness!! And I soooo can't wait to get paid! My payday is the last working day of the month which is fine if the month ends at the weekend, as I get it 'early' but this month I have to wait until next Tuesday!! Nearly there!. I'm only waiting so I can play with my spreadsheets!

I like the MSD, as I would do the same on NSD. If I did spend I'd probably think f**k it might as well make it worse!! :rotfl:

    I love my spreadsheets!

I'm not sure how much is OK, but I need the answer to this!! I'm a maid-of-honour next year & need to know what to get & how much to spend (as little as possible as they're making us go to America!! - Florida in August!!!!!)

  • Raini - I thought Emms was my MSE twin - purrrrhaps you're my triplet?! My bro's wedding is in Mexico, and I'm being bridesmaid so an expensive one too - we go next Friday though, and at this point - I'm so excited about it, I don't actually care how much it costs! ;)

  • My other random wonderings for the day.......

Got my application forms through for my loan yesterday (funny that they're so fast efficient with these things, but not so much with others!). They said the cash would be in my bank, the day they receive the forms back. Now, my next payment is due for my existing loan on the 1st of July - so I'm wondering if it's possible to manipulate my payments, so that I can get the cash through from Lloyds without their being enough time for them to set up a payment for the 1st of July, but still manage to pay off my other loan off before that payment's due - therefor giving me a full month without having to make a payment, and have £166 saved - hhhhhmmmmm anyone know the best way to do this?

    xx
  • Oooohhhhhh - I forgot to mention my muchly exciting news for yesterday!! We got a wee cheeky free upgrade to "premium" seats on the flight for next week! Whoo hoo - wouldn't have paid the extra £170 to get it - but it's always even better to get these things for free!! ;)

    xx
  • OK - so I've read and signed the loan agreement, turns out that since I've chosen my payments to come out on the 1s of the month - my first payment will be the 1st of August! So if I can get the cash quickly enough - that's great news! :D

    Other "to do's"

    1. Apply for my credit reports again - haven't read them in a while
    2. Speak to Lloyds about maybe opening a CC with them too, I like to have one as an emergency, and although I get points back on the one I have just now - they don't hold as much value as the airmiles one that Lloyds do - so I'm considering cancelling the other one once the balance is clear and switching over
    3. Find out what happens to the interest on the loan if I leave Lloyds before the term of the loan is finished - since I stupidly forgot to ask the other day! Whoops!!
