    Rbs also can overule a decline.

    Internal scoring is NOT a myth!! I work for a high street bank and we have screen we can look at to see if we can pre approve customers for c/c's etc. I suggest you contact yur local branch to see if they can offer that facilty to you.

    Unfortunately, there's no evidence that opening a savings account prior to a credit application has any effect.

    If this were so, the fraudsters would all be at it ;)

    if there is money in it, it must help. i applied for a cc with hfax when I was 19 (so a few yrs ago, been closed since) and i got a huge limit (£3800) so it could only have been due to my savings with them.

    Well, you would think so, wouldn't you?

    Yet IME, and from feedback here, applicants with savings in Halifax (and other banks) are frequently handed below-average limits.
    People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.
