Travelling from German Airports????

Hiya

Partners posted to herford and will be going out to see him quite a bit.
Just wondering if anyone had an tips etc. Will probably fly into paderborn, hannover or cologne, depending on costs and flights times.
Haven't got a clue how to get from the airports!!
Whats the transport like over there?
Are they english friendly?
I'm going to have a go a learning a bit.
Partner won't have car for a few weeks that's why I need to try and come p with other ideas.
