wrk for a bank & iva's

Options
I've had awful bad luck recently (don't wanna bore you with the details but all avenues have been tried to get the £ back to no avail,) so my income has reduced by £500 pm, which as a single mother means I've had to seek advice from cab and am waiting for a debt officer appointment.

The thing is I wrk for a bank (not a fat cat!! just a poorly paid advisor) and I think I'll loss my job if I go down the IVA route, can't find my contract to double check this but I think I'll get the sack........ I have £17k unsecured debt (£6k being a staff loan) I'm not proud of the position but I have no other choice.

Any advice welcomed.

    Hello

firstly don't panic, I worked for a bank when I started IVA process.

If you cannot find your contract what about staff handbook ? if you do not have one can you ask to see a copy of one ? So you have confidential staff helpline, if you do ring them and ask them.

My situation I worked as a call centre advisor and my staff handbook said if I went bankrupt would be classed as gross misconduct and dismissed. It siad that " debt problems" not sure what way it worded it but did not mention IVA itself, it said this would be looked at individually.

If you are unregulated it is up to your bank. I ended up speaking to my line manager who in turn spoke to centre manager and came back and todl me my job was safe although " I may be liable to more checks of my work" As well as haveing a staff loan I also had credit card, 2 oversrafts and a load when the bank was informed of my upcoming IVA and all accounts were frozen.

In the end I acually left one week before my IVA started as I felt although one 2 people know about my problems I did not want to work there anymore, I got a job closer to home. My boss tried to talk me out of it lol

    hope you get your answer

Thanks so much for your advice, I'm gonna ask for a copy of my contract and try to figure this one out.....i've stopped worrying because I've just found out today I have got a job I applied for in March( not in banking :D ) so thankfully I don't need to tell my current employer anything.

I've applied to open a basic bank ac with another bank in preparation for the freezing of my ac's ( just incase I go down the IVA route ) bit scary all this

    Thanks again
