Hi, looking for a cheap and reliable MP3 player. Saw a couple on play.com, which looked OK.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sansa make some quite cheap mp3 players that seem to be highly rated by many on here.0

What's cheap? What price range are we looking at?0

I can tell you not to buy one like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-32GB-2-6-TFT-LCD-MP3-MP4-OGG-RMVB-Radio-Player-gb_W0QQitemZ180371572352QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_PortableAudio_MP3Players?hash=item29fefbc680&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1690|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50
I did buy one, it arrived on monday after 10days, and it only lasted 1 week. I sent it back on the following saturday, the power cable supplied never charged it up, i had to use another cable i just happened to have,
after putting 3.57gb of music on it i got file errors. so i downloaded a flash memory tester, basically just read and write to the drive to check the memory this is when it died, whilst it was testing it was 50/50, but that was only in the first 1/2 of the test. so 50% of the memory was good, and 50%was bad.
I tried most of the formats it said worked.
Music Format Supported: MP3 / WAV / these worked
Video Format Supported: WMV 5 files non worked / FLV some worked / AVI (Xvid) only some worked. then i found out you needed to convert divx encoded to xvid, and no the fourcc changer didnt work.
battery life no where near 12 hrs, could never really fully charge it, 4 bars whilst connected as soon as removed from pc, dropped to 3bars, would say it would last about 6hrs max per charge providing you where listening only to mp3, playing avi i would say if you managed to get through 1 x 2hr movie you where lucky, I won mine in a bid, £25 including p&p,
sent it back 2 weeks ago, still waiting for them to say they've had it back, sent back on the 06/06/09 by airmail, dont included sat/sun,. when they receive it back I should get a refund or get a replacement, which will take another 10 days.. So more trouble than it worth.0 -
Have a look at Reevoo.com if it helps any.0

Not knowing what price range you have. I would go for this....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Walkman-NWZ-B133FB-Player-Tuner/dp/B001EE8V3O/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1245726051&sr=1-10
Good brand in Sony, Free delivery, under £30 and best set of headphones you will get for that price range.
I have had them before and sound is very good, i think they retail in argos for about £10, so you getting the mp3 player for just over £15 really.
Go any cheaper than that and some poor 12yr old in china will have made it:eek:0 -
I have a Samsung round purple one, it holds 2GB of memory and uses the USB to charge via a 3 pin minijack to USB adaptor. Lithium Ion battery inside.
Earphones on Laynard, Perfect!
Look in Argos - about £300 -
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Yea, I've had experience of dodgy mp3 players from ebay - not going there again!
Obviously the usual places (play.com, dabs, amazon) will stock them but hearing individual opinions is always handy. Thanks.0
