Everybody does! Everyone changes the pedals on as serious bike as it's personal preference what sort you want and whtehr you want clipless or not etc. A lot of top end bikes come without pedals for that reason

nothing scientific for my OH, he just wanted blue ones to match the frame! :rotfl:

Decathlon do a couple of very cheap bikes that seem OK.

As well as avoiding suspension, if you plan on using it on the road then avoid anything with big chunky tyres, they just make it harder to pedal.
  • Why do you need to speed on the road?

Chunky tyres on the road are better if you don't want to have constant flats with the state of the roads, in my experience.

My OH changed my chunky tyres to road ones and I kept getting flats. Since I changed back to chunky ones I did not have any more problems!
  • im into my mountan bikes and love getting out on them, HOWEVER

Recently a friend of mine was moving from a house to a flat and was looking for a good home for a Cheapish Rayleigh mountain bike. I said I would take it with the intention of taking it to places where I wouldn't want to leave one of my good bikes tied up. To be honest it is a lot heavier but its a cheap bike. For 99/100 people i think it would be more than adequate.

but yeah if i was looking for a new cheapo bike it would probably be ebay

I'd agree with most of the above...

... I then spent the refunded money (plus about £200 more) on a decent bike which I'm still using now.

    Which bike is it?
A problem shared is a problem multiplied. :o

Get some tyre slime, I havent had a puncture since using it, I have two sets of wheels, 1 set for off road, with a set of knobbly tyres, and a set for road use that has slick tyres, which are so much faster than the knobblies on road.
  • OK chaps the thread is 5 months old and the OP never came back!
