MBNA Travel Insurance benefit withdrawn

I have just found ou that MBNA have withdrawn my Travel Insurance cover without my knowledge.
About 6 years ago they [MBNA] gave me a BEYOND card. They gave it to me as I was in the process of handing back another card of theirs that I no longer used. The BEYOND card was good for me because it encompassed FREE travel insurance for me and my partner. I was doubtful that it was worth it at first, but when I looked in to the schedule of insurance I found that it was as good as any other that I had paid for in the past, and it was worldwide and included winter sports cover. There was only 2 critera for getting covered: Using the card 10 times a year and ensuring that at least 50% of the trip was paid for using the BEYOND card.
About a month ago I received a new card from MBNA, but it didn't have the word BEYOND on it. I rang the Insurnace company that was listed as the underwriters and they told me that me covered has ceased with them last July. They were unable to tell me who covered me now, if anyone did.
I rang MBNA to make enquiries and they confirmed that I was no longer covered as the benefit had been withdrawn; they no longer offered free Travel Insurance. They told me that it was withdrawn on the issue of the new card, but couldn't tell who covered me during the past year.
I made my displeasure known to them, not just for withdrawing the benefit (I concede that it is their perogative), but to not make me aware of it was out of order.
They didn't seem to be too bothered, but did say that they would make a note of my irrirtation.
Anyone know if any of the other card providers have card that offers Travel Insurance?

For a while I had the Amex Platinum Chargecard. It was about £300 a year and the included travel insurance for me and other cardholders (who don't have to be family or travelling with me) and priority pass lounge access made it worthwhile. In the end I got fed up with their constant fiddling with benefits and rules, and eventually I happily cancelled it when I stopped being UK resident.
It depends on your precise needs, but I strongly suggest you look at "insure and go" or other similar companies. What I like about them is you can exactly tailor your cover to suit your needs. In my case I need trips up to 90 days, but I'm not bothered about baggage (I'm careful and don't want to subsidise other people's inflated claims) - just want medical cover. There are various other boxes you can tick/untick to suit yourself. Much better than a "bundled" deal IMHO.
Oh yes one card I saw (might have been a posh HSBC one) insisted that only trips where tickets had been bought with the card were covered.... Can do without that kind of restriction.0 -
I kept receiving these calls from MBNA offering me a travel insurance and asking me if they could send me a package. Those calls were bothering me a lot because I work from home and many times they would call while I was in a conf call and they kept beeping my line. After sometime, and I gave up and agreed in receiving the package, but ONLY because it was FREE. As I didn't need any travel insurance and the package contained a bunch of pages to read, I simply got rid of it by shreading it. A year later I noticed I was charged 151 dollars for that!!!!What???? I called them up and was told I had to call them to cancel and because I didn't do that, now I have to pay. The person refused to cancel and said I have to wait until next year for another package in order to call and cancel. Is this stuff legal in Canada? I feel like I've been robbed.0
