I moved out of my mortgaged house in Nov , and they gave me 6 months council tax free because the house was empty , now they want to charge me half the cost every month , someone said there was a way to avoid it altogether , any ideas appreciated.

hi
dont think so
you need to pay it
they and HMRC are the only
2 that i know that will make you BR
only know you need to pay
cause my parent had a house that they didnt
live in for ten months
and only got 6 months free
then went on to half CT

The only way to get out of it altogether is when it's officially repossessed, but not necessarily sold, so it doesn't matter if it takes another year to sell, once it's official it's the banks problem. Or if the OR takes it as an asset.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

thanks for the reply but my question was whether the house will be handed over at the court date or whether it takes another month or so for the bank to repossess after that0

I think that question was in another thread you have started, rather than this one.
I believe it's a "how long is a piece of string" question.0 -

sorry , I got my posts mixed up , its just that the council are demanding that I pay half council on this property we had which is soon to be repossessed , but I thought there was some letter or something that you can write to avoid paying the tax altogether.
Anyone got any ideas?0 -
There isn't a letter to avoid paying council tax altogether.
You write to them when the property is unoccupied for your 6 months rebate, which you've aleady had, after that you liable for full CT up to the date of repo.
Council tax is calculated at a daily rate, so once the mortgage company has taken possession you can send them a letter asking for an accurate closing bill.
You're going to have to pay it until you get your repo date. If you don't you'll end up back in court, and the debt won't be included in your BR.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Dont mean to be negative but why are most of your threads about " How can I avoid/not pay".

And the thing that puzzles me as well....you start a post & halfway through try to change things around....We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
