?Cancellation Fee

A bit of a long story but would appreciate it if anybody can advise me of our rights. My partner and I went looking at bedroom furniture yesterday and spotted a selection on offer due to the fact that the store (Interios) were no longer doing business with the supplier (Weimann) and wouldn't be getting any more stock from them. We (stupidly) ordered and paid (£1499 by credit card) for the units and measured when we got home. It was very close but as a full unit the furniture was too big. We could use the overbed section and the wardrobe section seperately but despite a couple of returns to the store to re-measure we will be left with a rather large corner wardrobe unit which doesn't fit anywhere. My partner spoke with the salesman who said we could have the 2 side sections without the corner unit but would be charged the same and that if we cancelled the order as my partner felt we should, then we would have to pay a restocking/cancellation fee although he wasn't able to tell us over the phone what that fee would be. I won't mind too much if it's a token fee for the inconvenience but suspect that they may try to charge us 20-30%. As the item has not had to be ordered from a manufacturer, nor are they restocking the range I can't see why there should be a cancellation fee. It's still as it was yesterday when we saw it in the showroom. The receipt is exactly that, with no information regarding rights, returns or any other legal stuff. Does anyone know where we stand.... apart from in a too small bedroom ;)?

I'm sorry to say that, unfortunately, as the contract was made in their place of business, you do not have any rights to cancel or return any items, unless said items are faulty or damaged.

It is your responsibility to ensure any items will fit your requirements before you buy...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Perhaps the restocking fee refers to the shop thinking they were getting rid of the furniture (as you bought it), so they've already ordered some more in?

You could only return it if it's faulty, but your room being too small doesn't classify as a furniture fault.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
