Refund faulty shoe

Today I bought high heels from a high street store, however the zip of it is ever so hard to do up or open. Without me opening the zip I cannot get my feet in. Would this be considered as a fault, if so would they refund?
If it isn't considered as a fault can I still ask for a refund?
When I stated this when buying, the man said it's because its new but after a few tries trying to make it open easily it still hasn't become easy

If you want to get a zip that is very difficult to open to work properly just rub a normal pencil over the teeth (Both sides). It should make it work properly.0

Didn't know that, will try to remember it.
I was going to suggest a very careful application of WD40 myself.
