Does my car qualify for scrappage scheme?
Hello, can anyone tell me if my car qualifies for this government scheme because the car was first purchased in Belgium (HM Forces) on 17/3/99 but not registerd in Uk until we returned 16/10/2000?
Cannot find the answer to my question on the Fiat website anywhere, so please can anyone help me with this one. Today we have given a deposit on a new Fiat, but now and wondering if we qualify!
We are suppose to go and take our car and collect the new one next week, so am running out of time, please help? Thanks for reading this I hope someone can help us

It looks like it doesn't qualify. Here are the rules of the scheme from the direct.gov website:
Your vehicle
The vehicle you are trading in must:
be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms (kg)
be registered in the United Kingdom (UK) on or before 31 August 1999
be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) in your name
have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
have a current MOT test certificate before date of order for the new vehicle (or within 14 days of expiry at the time of order)
have a current tax disc when the order for the new vehicle is placed (or within 14 days of expiry at the time of order)
be insured when the order for the new vehicle is placed0 -
But that is discrimination against the HM Forces who buy cars abroad just because we cant register it in UK!0

No, it's not discrimination. I think you should look up the definition of the word.
You car hasn't been registered in the UK within the allotted time frame. There are no "what if's". If you start bending the rules, where do you stop?
I bet you got a pretty substantial discount if you bought it through HM Forces, no? Sounds like you want it all ways.
Take it on the chin, and move on!0 -
Oh thanks for that one you obviously dont support the Help for Heroes then!0

irret, I am in a similar situation as my car was registered in 2001. If you drive a toyota however then you may qualify for their scrappage scheme (they have their own), they offered me £2250 for mine although I decided to hang on to it for a bit.
Help for Heroes is something different and is a good charity to support, however, it wont help in qualifying for car scrappage I am afraid to say.0 -
Assuming it's a BFG cars I thought they counted as UK registered, if you left in on Belgian plates then you are out of luck0
