Hi all,
We are planning to go to Alton Towers in a couple of weeks, we have booked the travel lodge at Stoke Talke and would be grateful if anyone can tell us of any nice places to get breakfast, lunches & dinner, in the surrounding area at a reasonable price, 2 adults & 2kids. thanks.

Theres a Taybarns where you are stopping, All you can eat buffet for about £7 each.0

above poster may/may not be confused,
taybarns is next door to the premier inn chesterton, however it is only approx 1/2 mile away down A34 towards newcastle town centre,
walkable if all adults want a drinkie, but you'll be crossing a busy r/about A500/A34, i believe it,s £8.99 in the week (eve), diff prices at w/e and maybe diff times of the day.
walk approx 300yds A34 toward manchester and there is the miller and carter restaurant, been once since done up about a year ago, not the cheapest, say above average pub grub prices but above average pub grub quality.we enjoyed it. gets very busy fri/sat night, can't book, get there before 7.
about 1/2 or 3/4 mile further towards manchester is a crown carvery called the cauldwell tavern. carvery in the week is £3.95! and its good grub too, we go every other sunday or so when its (i think) £6.95 and its worth it at that. rest of the menu is good value too, also prob cheapest pint in the area;)
for breakfast;-try a local delicasy, http://www.everymenu.co.uk/stoke_on_trent/sandwich_bar/goldenhill_oatcakes-7091.htm
oatcakes are like savoury pancakes, you can have with cheese, bacon or any other breakfast filling or mixture of. it's not sit in and they only open faily early, i'll check the hours and report back (i'll be popping in for mine tomorrow;))
ps, you probably allready know, but there is a little thief next to your travel lodge
hope this helps
bocksterPlease note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0 -
ahaa, here's a taybarns link for prices;- http://www.taybarns.com/home/menus
should add, drinks are reasonably priced there too (about £2.20ish lager when i last went. Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0 -
If you continue on along the A34 towards Newcastle (about 1 or 2 miles), there's a Buffet Island (Chinese buffet restaurant) that my friends have been to and say is very good. It's popular though and gets very busy.0

Assuming you will be going along the A500 to get to Alton Towers, there is a Toby Carvery at Festival Park (leaving Talke, it is about the 4th exit from A500, 2nd left, then left again at the roundabout). It is popular so the food is constantly replenished, and is good quality and value.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

i wouldn't waste your money going to Taybarns unless you want very cheap meat ect and alot of grease. its not good at all. at Festive Park you have Frankie and benny's and Toby Carvery as some one said above. there also a nice pub across the road from where you are staying, there do all home made food and its really nice. Its called miller and carter steakhouse. hope this helps!0

If you're staying at the Stoke Talke Travelodge then take a peg for your nose!! We stayed there at Easter and it smelt horrible - all musty and damp!xxx Nikki xxx0

little chef up the road
but you'll be in alton towers all day
taybarns was great for b'fast, but rammed in the evening and we couldn't get any dinner when we stayed there whilst doing an alton towers trip,
so we went to little chef insteadPlease take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

Head down the A500 towards Stoke, take the turn off for festival park and keep to the left hand lane (dont go over the flyover!) When you come to the roundabout turn right and head for Hanley. About 100 yards past the roundabout on your right is a little pub called The Plough and they do some of the best pub meals I have ever tasted. The steaks are fabulous, though you may want to avoid the "Speak to me sideways" if you are in polite company as the garlic is a killer lol
Also seconding Buffet Island, as well as Mihnns in Hanley. In fact, if you can find your way into Hanley itself there are the usual Maccys etc plus some nice little cafes where you should sample Staffordshire Oatcakes
