Can I do this with Virginmedia?

Hello

I posted this on the haggle down your costs thread last night but I've not received a reply, so I thought I'd post a new thread to ask

Just a quick question.

I have cancelled VM media on Thursday 18th June, so will be cancelled 18th July.

I cancelled for various reasons including getting my bill wrong by overcharging me £10, then telling me that they can't put me on the cheap deal that they had promised etc. etc.

I am ready to order a bt line this week if they don't contact me and offer a better deal.

The question is can I go through with the cancellation and then re order a couple of days later as a new customer? The deal I want is £21.95 for new customers as opposed to the £27 that they offered me + my mum is a Virgin customer so she can recommend me and we both get £30 off our bill.

Just wanted to know if I could do this, or don't they allow it for customers who have recently left?

Thanks. Any advice appreciated.

Don't delay long! BT's free installation offer ends at the end of the month.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Read the terms ref recommendation offer...I don't think you'll be successful there I'm afraid. My brother wanted to recommend me so that we get the discount, but because I'm a returning customer they won't pay out. You have to be a new customer (i.e. never been with VM before) to get the money.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

Don't worry. I know the BT offer ends on 30th. I'm going to phone this week. Virgin Media have just constantly annoyed me. Also I don't like being trapped in to Virgin by not having a BT line, I like freedom of choice

 But BT are restrictive in that to get free connection BT require you to sign an 18 month contract, and make 10 calls a month.

Yes but I can choose which broadband provider I can go with, rather than being stuck with Virgin.

I will easily make 10 calls a month, I will choose the £14 something option of free evening and weekend calls and use over rider providers for day and mobile calls. After 18 months I will be FREE to choose ANY phone company. There are the options of Talk Talk essentials with connection at £60 or Post Office at £107, but I don't think I will be any better off with these. I have heard that Talk Talk broadband is quite slow, is this true? I was going to choose plusnet broadband at £5.99 (can get that price as in high competition area) What are peoples experiences of Plus net, I have heard they're quite good.

Sorry those last 2 questions are probably for a different thread.

    Thanks

I'm also leaving Virgin Media as although I have never had a problem with their broadband I don't believe that the service is competitive enough. £25 for 10Mb is way too much when you can get 8Mb from O2 for £7.34 p/m.

As for certain suppliers being slow it's all dependant on the condition of your phone line and how far away you are from the exchange. If you go to the Sam Knows website you can put in your postcode and it will show you on a map how far away you are from the exchange and what kind of speed you can expect to get.

The exchange is just down the road about half a mile away. I am assuming this is quite close so will give me a good speed?

Think I will go with talk talk essentials, as if the telephone exchange is close the speed should be OK. Also there are a lot of threads on here complaining about BT!
I am happy with Virgin Medias broadband, but they have gone too expensive, have messed up my bill, Can't honour deals that they have promised me on the phone and worst of all disconnected me after I had been on the phone for 25 minutes, most of it spent on hold! That last one really put me in the cancelling mood.

Yes but the forum is inundated with BT complaints.
