Is it OK to give my ex my bank account details?

Hi Everyone
To cut a very very long story short (I won't bore you with all the details) my ex wants me to come out of the CSA and he will give me more money for our children if I do. I know this is suspicious but i'm not really posting for people's opinions on this:o (hope that doesn't sound offensive!).

He's asked for my bank account details so he can set up a direct debit. Should I open another account just for his maintenance or I am OK to give him the sort code and account number for my account? Could he do anything (ie, something not nice:rolleyes:) with my bank account details?
May sound a daft question but I'm not entirely 100%.
Thanks for any help

Well personally if you are unsure about giving him your bank details, maybe you should reconsider coming out of the csa's cover.

Well, a new account would be free. So best of both worlds. Open up a new account and get more pennies.
then just set up your own transfer from this to your main account.
Can always go back to the CSA

You are ok to give him your bank account number and sort code so that he can pay money into it. I cannot see why he would want to pay that way though as opposed to via the csa.

I wouldn't expect you to see why:rolleyes:. Believe me, it benefits him enormously if I come out of the CSA, it benefits me a little (not fairly, but self employed workers have the capacity to fiddle the books).

I just wanted to know if he could do anything untoward with my bank account details?

    Thanks

Why don't you just set up a basic bank account with any high street bank and give him those details - put your mind at rest?

He can't do anything untoward with the details, however HE has to be careful that you don't forget that the payments are for child support, so realistically it is more risky for him to pay that way. On principle I would donate to my child's mum directly only via the csa, that way it is all documented and logged, whether she gets £20 or all of it, is not my problem to worry about :D

I'm not claiming benefits, so it makes no difference DUTR. If I come out of the CSA, that's it, case closed - so they would not give a flying rat's behind whether i'd 'forgotten that the payments were for child support' or not. I think for someone on benefits you would have a valid point, but in my case it isn't relevant;) no there is no risk for him what so ever

I never assumed you were claiming anything, I meant as far as the law is concerned if the payments are not documented then he could be putting money into the account for any reason . Oh by the way it is not so easy to open another account nowadays, due to the banks concerning themself over money laundering, but back to your topic, I assume the CSA got involved as he was not assisting as he should, so as a bloke and to keep balance with my viewpoints, I would say keep things as they are, it seems you dont owe him any favours other than he gave you a lovely child or two .:A

It's dead easy. I have 2 current accounts and 1 basic bank account.

Why would a basic bank account be a problem? There is no lending (overdraft) involved and in most cases not even a credit check is done, just a electoral roll check.

by law banks have to give you a basic account if you want one with them mainly for benefits people so they can collect their benefits rather than getting a giro, ive got a cash card with barclays and my normal account with another bank.
