Confusing road markings, ticket issued please help

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me as to a pcn issued to me. We has parked on a single line, which was a continuance from double yellow lines, on a sunday afternoon as we had presumed 30 mins was allowed as there wasn't any yellow sign stating restrictive times, yet we recieved a pcn code 01 parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours, On seeing this we looked at all signs & road markings carefully and found the following, a black with white writing sign above the double yellow line part, but no yellow sign at all indicating any restriction for the single lines, also there were some double 'blips' on the curb by the single line. Having had a look at the highway code I am really confused as to whether this pcn is enforceable or not as these road markings and signs all seem to be in contradiction to each other! I think that it may be because the single line was originally a double which had been 'burnt' out and the local council had not updated signage or the 'blips'. Any help anyone can offer at all would be very welcome as we genuinely thought we could park there.
Many thanks in advance!
