Hi, we are looking to rent privately and was wondering if anyone knows of any good sites on the net were property is advertised by the landlord and we dont have to go through an agent? Im looking in the local press but there isnt much about at the minute that ticks all the boxes its all mostly student accomadation which is fine for students but not a family!
Thanks in advance

interesting, per your other post you are going bankrupt in July and therefore presumably want to avoid agents? Agreed it is less likely that a private LL will do a credit check, but all the same....:lipsrseal
try using google. There are plenty of places where properties are advertised, gumtree to start with0 -
I have also contacted agents in the area and they dont all rule out bankrupts im looking in to all area's of renting either privately or through an agent. As i know its going to be harder for us and not a walk in the park so looking at everything.
Thanks for the reply0 -
I have used these people before to advertise my places. I'm not saying they are better than anyone else, i just happened to find them first.
When you click on the contact LL link there should be enough info to work out if it's a LA or private (youll see the same name/number recurring!)
The only down side is the search option is basic and does not allow you to search by distance only by named location

The Gumtree has accommodation offered adverts where you should be able to screen out adverts from agents through their filter facility. Beware of scammers who are attracted to free internet sites and be aware that some agents try to disguise themselves in the private section.
Have a look at spareroom.co.uk to see if they advertise entire properties, not just room shares.
If you restrict your search to private landlords, you probably exclude at least half the market, if not more. If you hope to find a private landlord naive enough not to undertake tenant screening, you reduce your pool of potential accommodation by a further large amount.
It is a good idea if you can address the reasons why landlords and agents are adverse to letting property to you, such as offering a guarantor and a higher payment of initial rent upfront.0 -
Finding a LL who self-manages their property generally makes good financial sense becuase although they will, in all likelihood, still want to run some sort of background checks on you, you are unlikely to be fleeced for the spurious admin fees that LA rack up.Your best bet is to be totally upfront with the LL about your BR, from the start, and don't agree to pay a "holding fee" , without making absolutely certain you know under what circumstances all of it/part of it would be returned to you if the tenancy did not proceed. Do you have anyone who would be prepared to stand as a guarantor for you?
Try contacting the local LL association - and use sites like vivastreet, letalife etc in addition to ones already mentioned.0
