British Gas Electronic Token Meter Standing Charge
Hello All..I've just registered and would appreciate it if someone could answer the following..some might say daft..question...
..it may seem bizarre but I have a British Gas Electronic Meter that I have never used in 8 year since I moved into my flat..I registered and received a British Gas Gascard when I moved in but have never used it.(just haven't needed to use gas..just used electric)...now I'm thinking of starting using it but a friend said that they reckon I will probably get seriously stung with a standing charge for the period I registered.
I thought British Gas did not levy and standing charge.
Don't want to call British Gas and mess up....
Anyone out there know the answer??...and if it is 8 years of standing charge..is there any way of getting out of it??
Neill

Technically there is no standing charge, but due to idiosyncracies of the meter, some debt may have built up.
Press the red button - it should show £0.00 for gas
Press the red button again, it shoudl show £x.xx OWED.
if £x.xx is anything other than £0.00 it will take money from you when you top up.
With this information, you can call up and ask them to reset it - they'll need to send a man out.
It's a bit of an odd situation so you may need to persevere.
PS I work there0 -
Many thanks for your reply SwanJon..a big worry of my mind..I'll get onto it.0
