IKEA Kitchens

So i have decided that i am most probably going for a IKEA Kitchen; due to there being a good choice and being £600 cheaper than B&Q equivalent.
I know that the cupboards have no recess at the back, but are the actual cupboards any larger, because i dont really fancy any of their worktops so want to purchase them elsewhere. Do they fit ok?
Are there any other nuances that i might need to be aware of regarding IKEA Kitchens?
many thanks

Their base units are a standard 560mm deep (and add around 20mm for the fascia) so you can get worktops anywhere you want. The downside to not having any service gap at the back is, if you have water/gas pipes or cables that need to be fed up to an appliance, it will be visible inside the unit.
The only other real nuisance is the wall units can be a nightmare to hang, if you're fitting it yourself.
I would always go for Ikea over B&Q, but at the end of the day, you do get what you pay for.
P.S. Don't get their appliances, you will find better spec. ones for a similar price online...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Ikea units are 60cm deep hence their worktops are 620mm not standard 600mm. If you wish to have a worktop overhang base units (most people do) and not buying worktop from IKEA you would need to buy 665mm deep worktop and if it overhangs too much just rip a slim piece off the back raw worktop edge.I love my New Year's day baby girl Olivia xx:happyhearxx0 -
Can't comment on the actual units, but my ex neighbour was a kitchen fitter by trade and he swore by the Ikea kitchens, said that nothing else touched them for the quality you get at the price. Good choice.Pants0

Ours went in fine (no problems hanging cupboards). Didn't like the IKEA worktops either. Got ours from Homebase (breakfast bar size cut down) - order was a nightmare but happy with worktops. Seen similar breakfast bars in B&Q and Wickes.0

I've always thought IKEA kitchens were good value for money.
As long as you are aware of the lack of service void and can live with the white carcass colour.
All our granite is produced at 630mm to cover all eventualities including Ikea tops.
620mm - 630mm is about spot on for Ikea, anything narrower than that doesn't work.0 -
For the money you are spending then they are good value. However like all things IKEA then they are not "standard" sizes etc.
If you buy the carcases and doors both from IKEA then you will be fine but if you buy the carcases from IKEA and want to put doors from somewhere else then you will be in trouble because they space their hinges differently or have non-standard fittings. Tried this once and had to trim all the doors by a couple of millimetres.0 -
Invest in a pack or two of wooden wedges (50p a pack at B&Q). The hangers for the cupboards don't have a forward backward adjustment on them - only side to side and up and down. So if your wall is wonky, you'll need them to go behind the cupboard to screw against. I did this and worked a treat!0

Can't say I've heard this! My dad is a builder and Ikea kitchens just make him swear! A few kitchen fitters I know will not touch ikea kitchens at all.
I need a new kitchen and have seen a couple I like in Ikea but can not get anyone to fit it.0 -
We got our kitchen from Ikea, the fitter we got in said they were much better quality than others he had fitted, B&G; Homebase etc etc. The only bad thing he had to say was it took longer to fit with not having the space at the back, but don't forget you have more room in your cupboard.
The fitter we got did'nt leave the pipes on show inside the cupboard, he chisseled out the wall. We went elsewhere for the tops and got wider ones,Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
