Wait for Redundancy or take new job?

Wait for Redundancy or take new job?

I’ve been a reader of the forums for a long time but this is my first post. Any help would be grateful.

The site I am working at will be closing in October. I have not been given notice yet( I expect to be given this Aug/ Sept). I have been offered a new job for a different company for the same wage( £28ish), but they want me to start in July.

Would you give up redundancy for the new job ? Expected redendancy to be around £15,000 ?

I have asked unofficially for voluntary redundancy to be told there’s no chance.

I have asked the new company to wait for me and they wont.

I know there’s not many job out there

What would you do ?

Thanks

J

If I knew I was loosing my job anyway I would play it safe and take the new job - I think.. 15k will only last you 6 months if you didnt find a job.. Obviously if you DID find a job in October you would be 15k up.. Tricky one. :)

If your current job is to go can you be so sure the other one will still be there in 6 months too?
I'd stay for the 15k. It's money in the bank.

Have you considered if there are any other advantages with the new job ? You say the money is about the same but is it nearer to home ? better prospects for the future ?

    I'd be tempted to go
  • Thanks for the replies,

Its about 20 miles extra round trip to travel. I think i am going to take the job. The money wouldnt last that long as i've lots of outgoings and i could be months/ years trying to find another job on similar money.

Although what if i take the job and they let me go within a few months, no job, no payout......hmm
