If your after a scenic train ride try this one :- http://www.gornergrat.ch/en/
Truly stunning all the way up the mountain to 10,000ft, and then have lunch when you get there. Superb views of the Matterhorn.
Alternatively the Glacier Express is the famous line running through the mountains : http://www.bvz.ch/travelinformation/timetableandfares/glacierexpress.php

you will be close enough to Bern, Geneva and Montreux to have a visit for the day.
Undoubtedly there will be much sport both on land and water to keep you amused.
The Blue Lake at Kandersteg is close, historical towns like Neuchatel and Luzern are not far. You could even go to Gstaad and try to spot Shania Twain ;)
In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?

Great train rides at gornegrat as exel said

you could check out brig as a base for travel to the above.

It has 3 or 4 different trains all joining there from mainline to the glacier express

If anyone is in to scenic train rides, one of the best passes you can buy is the BERNER-OBERLAND pass, available from stations,

    https://www.regiopass-berneroberland.ch/engl/geltung.html

which cost 220 SF for an adult for 7 days. This covers many of the most scenic train rides and gives a hefty discount on arguably the best of them all - the Jungfraujoch. It covers state and private railways, funiculars, cable cars, gondolas and also ships across the lakes.

A great place to base oneself for the Berner-Oberland region is Interlaken. We stayed there with 3 kids and did not need a car at all as travel was by public transport with the passes we bought. Other good places to stay further in to the mountains are Muerren, Wengen, Grindelwald (our favourite).

Do you know where you are flying into yet? Is it Geneva? presuming it is (because Easy Jet fly there) then to start with Geneva really is a lovely city and relatively compact. Go down to see the lake and the huge fountain and have an ice cream from one of the many stalls and cafes round the edge!

I mainly know of two spots in switzerland -
The Valiais (Sion/Martigny etc) and The Bernese Oberland (Wengen, Grindlewald, Lauterbrunen) both are very beautiful spots and have mountain trains. Theres a really good camp site at Lauterbrunnen opposite the bottom of a waterfall and I think you can hire static caravans, you should be able to find a website, its called Camping Jungfrau. I'd go there this summer if I had the opportunity (and the dosh!)

We have relatives living in the Valais area so we paid them a visit last summer - weather was very hot in July - lovely area.

Have you been to switzerland before? It can be a little pricey - just to warn you! but is well worth it and everywhere clean and beautiful (& fab food - chocolate and cheese!)

    HTH;)

The scenic railways are great but with a six month old you'll be advised not to take them to high altitude.

Just driving through some of the valleys is wonderful in Switzerland.
