cam belt on corsa

Hi, hope someone can help me

My elderly Mum has a problem with her Vauxhall Corsa and I was wondering if anyone could advise us please? Her cam belt has gone (or cam shaft - she's says she's not sure but I reckon it's the belt) and the garage are stripping down the engine to assess the damage. Its a 2005 plate and has done less than 40.000 miles. When this happened to our Fiesta, Ford mended it for free as the cam belt was guaranteed for a certain amount of miles, so Ford were at fault and sorted it. Should this be the case for Mum's car, as they are expecting her to pay a huge amount to have it fixed? I don't want them to rip her o

Thanks in advance

What is the reccomended interval for changing the cambelt? Has she had it regularly serviced at Vauxhall dealership (or perhaps with manufacturers parts at an independant)?

I dont fancy her chances unless she has full Vauxhall service history and even then..she might struggle.

The Corsa cambelt needs to be changed every 40k minimum - not sure about the time period but I think it's 4 years and/or 40k whichever is first.

So it might be either just in or just out of recommended interval could be interesting.

Possibly. It depends on how much +/- 4 years or 40k the car is.

When you order a cambelt kit for a Corsa it includes all the plastic pulleys and tensioners. The tensioner is a particular weak point. The water pump isn't brilliant either and should also be replaced at the same time.

By interesting i mean I wonder if Vauxhall will pick up the tab if it is over the limit and/or has not met servicing schedules.
  • changing a cam belt every 40k is total madness

Vauxhall used to be 80k/8 years for belts and this was cut a few years ago to 40k/ 4years following problems with the inline oil feeders on the 2.2l engine. (Strange as this engine has a chain not a belt) From then on it was belt and braces by Vauxhall as the fault cost them a fortune so I don't fancy your chances.
