B & Q Employees Freezing

I went into B & Q in Cwmbran in South Wales last night and the tills are a couple of feet away from the big double doors which is the main exit.

They looked absolutely freezing and when I commented on the door being open, the cashier said they weren't allowed to shut them.

    and being deafened...

on Monday the branch in Greenford had a intruder/fire alarm going off about 5 metres from the tills... my ears were ringing for half an hour afterwards so I dread to think how much the poor checkout people suffered!

To get a job in B&Q you have to do a "personality test". I am slightly bitter because I failed it...maybe that was because my answers indicated that I would not put up with either being freezing cold at work or having my head blasted off by an alarm.

Greenford used to be my "local" B&Q...moved away about a year ago. That car park used to drive me nuts!

im laughing my head of here, sorry, but you reminded me of a friend of mine that got a job at B&Q a few years ago, andas she was telling me about the personailty test thing, and explaining in detail the interview and the process, i was just thinking to myself, oh thats a shame, theres no way your gonna pass that one, dont get me wrong shes a lovely girl but personality is something you have to search deep for, i was gob smacked when she said she got the job, perhaps its my observations that are crap  :o ::) :-[ :-X

Yeah, I couldn't work out what sort of personality they wanted! I have loads and loads of qualifications, have done an interior design course at Central St Martins and worked in Ikea for 3 years doing a similar job, where I got "Employee of the Month" awards on more than one occasion (I am that rare sort who always greets customers and makes a bit of eye contact). And apparently I am unsuitable!!

Most of the B&Q staff are great, especially the older ones who will understand why wallpaper or whatever is such a big deal to a customer...but I really do wonder at some of the younger ones who don't seem to care very much and sometimes chat over customers heads. That really irritates me...specially as they passed that bloomin' personality test!

i think youve made your own point here you are obviously too over qualified, too polite and could do the job a bit too well, like ya say many of the older staff members youve come across are curtious and helpful etc, but the youger ones do leave a lot to be desired, if you ask them the simplest of questions, your faced with a fixed glazed stare, and ya just know that no ones home ::) 8)

im really sorry that you didnt get offered the position, but if its any concellation i really think you deserve better to be honest, if these people who interview cannot see real quality in a person then its their loss.

I hope youve sorted out a job now, or if not good luck with everything. :-*

btw, welcome to the boards ;) ;D ;D
