Southern electric - should I switch
Hi,
first, great advice on this site well done.
I am on southern electric dual fuel, energyplus Argos no service charge tariff's. Is it a good time to switch?
I have done comparisions and a saving of £220 on E-on, but last time I switched it took 4 months and calls to Ofgem as it took both companies this long to switch my gas (supplied by IGT).
What do people think?
Is there a specified time for them to switch?
Thanks

If you can save £220, it sounds like a good time as any to switch.
An IGT can cause a delay to switching the gas account, but it should only add upto about 4 weeks maximum on top of the 4 - 6 weeks it typically takes. (but there are no rules on how long it can take that I know of)
When I switched to ebico (who use Souther Electric for their customer service, billing etc) it only took about a week longer than the 4 weeks it took themto switch the electric, but I did keep on top of them asking what they were waiting for, who they had contacted and when and offering to call the IGT that they so often blamed.
I never did have to call the IGT as they discovered the responses they claimed they were awaiting were indeed in their hands, (on two occassions I can recall), but they were sitting in their in-tray awaiting input into their computer system.
The issue is simply caused by the IGTs not being on the same computer system that the suppliers, National Grid, etc have and so the transfer involves more manual input which seems to be left unless you actively chase them."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
