hotpoint fridege freezer frosting up

Options
Hi

Our freezer section of our fridge freezer frosted up quite a bit, when we look inside we noticed some of our ice lollipops looked like they had melted and then froze again. I went to the second hand shop where we bought it from and, the guys said that it could be the thermosatat needs replacing, he said he wasnt and expert and he didnt know for sure.

Does anyone know if it could be them thermostat or is there anything else that it could be. From my understanding its supposed to be a frost free freezer. Is replacing a thermostat a diy job or a professional job. How much can i expect to pay to replace this. ANy guidance would be very much appreciated as i really can't afford to buy a new fridge freezer.

Cheers

    Hi,

A model number would help as there's more than a few. ;)

Depending on the model it could be the usual thermistor problem which you can do yourself although, even second hand ,if it was bought from a shop you should have some sort of warranty on it surely?

    Hi

The fridge is out of warantee and i had a look on the back of the freezer and discovered two numbers r1234a and RF60P not sure which is the model number, had a look on the internet and one person on another site said the r1234a number is the gas number, not sure what that is about.

Please Let me know if you need any other information or can point me to a site where i can find out.

    Thanks for your help

    :(

Not sure on that one as it's a fair age TBH. In fact, some parts are now obsolete, it's that old.

R134A will be the gas used which would place it late 80's or 90's.

It is not a frost free machine, only an auto defrost fridge. That means that, from the description, that it likely isn't the thermostat that is causing the problem but more likely the compressor short cycling. That being the case it's not worth doing anything with at the age of it I'm afraid.

If the stat was faulty it would either not run at all or run continuously and overfreeze.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
