Rented a flat but did not get all the deposit back

My Girlfriend and I recently moved out of rented accommodation. We are being told that we will not get all the deposit back due to unclean carpets and missing crockery and pots.
We used a rug doctor prior to moving out and the pots and crockery were there when we left. So it is our word against theirs and they have deducted nearly £185 for this, has anyone had this kind of problem and is it worth pursuing?

Hi Chris, sorry to hear that, I have been in the same situation myself. I did go to court, it was a matter of principle and also all our deposit was kept for no reason.
Did you take any photos? it's not crucial but helps. Also the initial inventory would have shown what was at the property when you moved in, and the final inventory should show what was there when you moved out plus condition of the place.
If you did everything the right way, you should write to them with a short and sweet letter, poss showing a copy of the rug cleaning service and any evidence that might show up re the pots etc.
Was your deposit held with Deposit Protection Service? Any rent agreement after April 07 was subject to the new law requiring protection of deposits. If yours was, you might want to speak with the relevant agency holding your deposit and ask advice. our local citizens advice bureau can hopefully help also.MFW #185
