Getting a joint back account

Me and good lady just got engaged and are thinking of opening a Joint account Any pointers on this one? Do we need to be aware of anything other than the norm? We currently both have separate banks. What are the best options available?

Congrats on the engagement! :T
Just be aware that on joint bank accounts, you are both liable for any debts. So if one of you runs up a huge overdraft, you'll be jointly liable to repay it.
Otherwise, they act just like any other bank account. You'll each have your own debit card linked to the account and while cheques will be printed with your joint names, they will only need one signature (not that I've used cheques for ages, but hey-ho...)No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
And you may be linked financially to one another with a credit scoring report, I think.
A lot of people on here seem to have a joint account for the bills and then separate accounts for "spending money".0 -
