Just checked the back of my microwave and you're right; 1500w input= 900w output. The ability for microwaves to concentrate their energy on the food rather than the food+its enclosure must be the reason for the difference in cooking times.
Yeah, I think it is partly to do with that. Also, in a microwave the food heats up more uniformly (inside and out) but in an oven the heat has to be conducted from the outside of the food to the inside which takes time.
Notwithstanding all of that, the microwave is probably more efficient than an oven for small amounts of food. For larger amounts of food (lots of potatoes in this case) it might be a closer run thing.0 -
Microwaves 'baked' potatoes are horrid, Though surely a true MSE'r wouldn't put the oven on for one jacked spud : ) I tend to compromise and start off in the microwave then finish in the oven.0
