Young couple holiday outside of the Eurozone

Hi Everyone,
Me and my partner (both of us are in our early 20s) are looking for a good deal on a holiday in september. It could be for as long as 11 days. We were thinking maybe going out of the eurozone will save us pennies in the long run.

The trouble is he wants relaxing, I want culture. But we both agree on this: we need a beach and we don't want anything that resembles an 18-30s holiday!!

Does anyone have any ideas of places or areas so I can start hunting out our bargain?

A huge thanks in advance

Greece, which is in the Eurozone, had great deals in early June and unless there is huge demand in September - as I have concerns there will be, that should be a cheap option.

Croatia is a beautiful country that I would like to visit, it is out of the Euro, but the cost of the holidays seem high and if you fly and arrange accomodation direct it isn't cheap. There was a nice pice about island hopping in Croatia in the Observer travel magazine yesterday.

Northern Cyprus is another, or Turkey. You might be able to combine Istanbul with a coastal area, say three days in the city and the rest on the beach which might suit you both?

Otherwise Tunisia is quite cheap and the adverts seem to have plenty of culture - and plenty of beaches.

With package tours you may be more likely to end up in an 18 -30 style place, but some of the package tours are cheaper than the flights, so my plan is to have a week in Greece and base myself at the appartment, but move on if that isn't as nice as somewhere nearby.

Italy is lovely and if you went for the south you should be able to find cheap accomodation, even though again I know that is Eurozone.

    er nope.

Depends which bit you are going to and when. Hvar and Dubrovnik are pricey, but there are many more much cheaper places to go to.

Turkey isn't as cheap as it used to be, but it is still cheaper than eurozone.

Fethiye/Olu Deniz area is nice, not too noisy and there are some lovely places to see away from the tourist trail. You can jump on and off local buses (dolmus) easily and people are very helpful. Alternatively go into the local town and shop around for organised trips. A full day with lunch included is around £15 per person and you learn a lot more than if you go it alone.

Don't hire a car unless you enjoy white knuckle rides - Turkish drivers are a law unto themselves!

The OP is looking at September, and somewhere by the coast.

I had only been looking generally, and think I have decided on Greece now, but I haven't seen anything affordable i.e. anything two thirds of the price of Italy in Croatia this year.

Thanks for all your speedy replies, it is much appreciated. I will investigate those quiter areas in turkey, zzzLazyDaisy.

Thanks pee for your suggestion of Tunisia, never even thought of there. Any body know the quite coupley areas in Tunisia?

We have been thinking Egypt as an option, I would love to snorkel in the red sea. Sharks bay and Nabq bay have been recommended to me, but again i wanna stay clear of the drinking culture.

I'm not very well travelled so all your comments are much appreciated, going through the motions of booking something tonight.

Well Pee, I have been told off for going in to overdrive about the holiday, even though HE was the one that told me we would be booking it on monday night. Unfortunately we both started new jobs this month and missed the pay roll date so that means 6 weeks without pay and only half a months salary for me from previous job. Sooooooooooo we are waiting until the beginning on August (actually the second we get paid more like!). This does mean we can book last minute and maybe shave off a few more pennies.

But again, a huge thanks for your suggestions, and I will let you know.
