Beeping computer but sound off?

My friend has a new computer at work, she says it beeps every time an alert message comes up on screen which is slowly driving her mad! There is no IT support department where she works.

I have suggested turning the sound off which she has done but she says there is no output device installed anyway. She has also changed to No Sounds in preferences and disabled any speakers there too.

Anything else she can try?

All computers are supposed to have a little speaker connected to the motherboard.
She should be able to open the case and pull the speaker cable out. no speaker no sounds.

or she can buy a usb sound card and dont plug anything into it, it usually surpresses the internal speaker.

    You should be able to disable the internal speaker from within Windows by following these steps;

1). Open Device Manager from within System in the Control Panel.

2). In Device Manager click View and click "Show hidden devices"

You should now see 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers'.

3). Expand 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers' by clicking the plus and double click 'Beep'.

Within the properties for Beep click on the tab for the Driver.

4). To disable it permanently change the Startup Type to disabled. Apply and OK out of the dialogues and that should have sorted it out if you have the necessary privileges on the machine to make changes.

Open case, find speaker (normally at the front), disconnect from motherboard and throw a party! :D

    Debt-free and Proud!
Or disable internal speaker in bios (if you're able to)

Or... connect the speaker to the HHD activity LED connector lol

Sorry, it'd be funny if I actually thought for one second it'd work :p

That's what I'd go for. Have to have admin rights though.

and if you don't have permissions to be able to do that locally you could always do

    Start > run
    type net stop beep
    hit enter

Depends on what event it is reacting to.

In Outlook Expree select Tools / Options / General and deselect "play sound when new messages arrive".

In Control Panel / Sound and Audio Devices. Then Sounds tab and deselect the sounds you don't want to hear.

    Get an IT Dept...................

If it's the beep I'm thinking of, then those won't turn it off.
