its sad but both the sainsburys taste the difference and normal hot crossed buns are baked by british bakeries and not in store. Hubby works in the warehouse in our local JS and is fed up of the things....

This is not true. My husband IS a baker for Sainsburys. It would depend on the individual store. Savacentre stores would probably have them brought in. In my husbands store he bakes the 69p 6packs.0 -

sounds good, but a genuine question - does your husband bake pre-mixed (pre-frozen) mixed dough / finish-off, or is it all done reasonably from scratch in-store?0 -

I have just asked my husband (who is sat in the garden eating easter eggs:rolleyes: ) and he said in his store they bake them from scratch using flour, spice concerntrate & yeast. After it has been mixed the mixed fruit is added. After they have been proved up they do the crossing paste, this is before they are baked.0
