A delightful child in the neighbourhood has bunged my car door lock with something unknown, does anyone have any tips on how to clear it without going to a garage and payout a fortune i don't have at the moment.

Is it worth hoping for a WD solution or am i just out of luck? I managed to get out a bit of a straw so i'm hoping that its not a glue in it but the lock is still not letting in my key.

Schools out not yet so i cant go in search of the little tyke, but i do have a name:rolleyes:

  • This may sound a little daft but if it is only full of straw / grass is it possible to hoover it out, Or does the lock block off until you poke the key in?

    What car is it?

Very tricky. It depends very much on what it is, but WD40 has got to worth a try - it's quite good at dissolving lots of things. The other useful solvent is nail varnish remover - but this will REALLY ruin your paintwork, so use plenty of rags to protect the door and apply very carefully with a cottton bud.

If you have no joy, it may be worth getting hold of a locksmith - rather than your motor dealer - to see if he can offer any suggestions. It's also worth looking at your insurance policy - it *may* be worth making a claim, but you'll need to assess how much it will increase your premiums, and what the excess is going to be.

I really feel for you, I've had my car vandalised before so I know how you feel. In terms of getting hold of the scroat that did it, PLEASE be careful. Firstly you're going to have a very hard job getting any proof, and even if you can prove it, I'm afraid your chances of getting any comeback are slim. And if you take the law into your own hands, I'm afraid it'll be you that's in trouble. As I said, I know exactly how you feel, and personally I would castrate them with a rusty hacksaw, but please make sure you stay on the right side of the law, even though it's grossly unfair.

If its superglue then hot water can break it down

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to take a look after the school run and I know all about taking the law into your own hands and given that this GIRL has a reputation round the neighbourhood for being a pain and the parents care even less, i know theres no comeback from there, with the exception of threatening them with the law if she comes within a mile of the car again.

One of the neighbours girls told her parents about what she done but no one told me about it until today (happened yesterday!) When I had more time to sort out the problem...

I'll come back to you with what happened, if anything and will give it a go later..

    Many thanks

    LOL Keith,

Don't know how but my OH after trying to get whatever was in it out and found nothing, managed to put some oil in the lock and after several attempts managed to get it to work.

Looks like I'll be setting up a guard tower during the 8 weeks summer school hols we have over here!

I might just upgrade from a hacksaw lol
