Irregular savings - best account?

I have currently got a bit of extra cash, (about £1000) which I intend to use in a few months for a holiday and maybe for rainy days, etc.
The problem is its currently sitting in my normal account with and I dont want it to get swallowed up or frittered away so thought it would be best to put it in a savings account.

I won't be able to guarantee a regular sum going in each month, as my wages vary each month although I could prob manage £20 a month if needed. I would want to have unlimited access to the account so that I can put money in or take it out when needed without it affecting the rate and ideally I would want to keep the account for a while so i can use it as a holiday savings account in future. What account would work best for me, any ideas / opinions?

I only have an account with abbey at the mo so is there e-savers account any good? there isn't much info on the website for it in terms of withdrawals etc. Any help appreciated.
Lea
