You appear to be trying to hard to catch me out. I can see what you are doing, you don't really have an issue so are really going an*l on my post to try and find something.

Did I say "I think they will go up as fast"? No?

I simply said it would be unwise to suggest they cannot go up as fast, as someone else suggested. I didn't even make any predictions of any sort, neither was I arguing against any point you have made.

I'm not trying to catch you out or anything, I honestly did not understand your post as it started off on one path and ended up on another.

Maybe I miss-interpreted it, but that's how it came across to me

Sentence 1. Indicating that they can't stay low for long - no argument that they will rise, but I think the length will depend on the economic circumstance. Do you think we are past the reasons why they were lowered?

Sentence 2. Indicating that depending how they rise, there could be misery - Again I agree, hence why I think it will be slow rises rather than quick rises

Sentence 3. Indicating that it is possible for them to rise quickly - I agreed, they could, but given the previous two sentences, our current place in the economic history, I doubt they will rise quickly.

We've been back and forward enough on this post for it to now be boring, time to move on I think.

I seem to remember there was a specific issue with the amount of Diesel refining capacity and because of the growth in lorries and shipping, diesel supply was particularly constrained.

I guess now that problem has gone away, diesel has come down in price - either that or the garages have closed the gap in order to earn a bit more profit.

    R.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

    Why is this?

heavy oil is used in industry (freight, machines etc) so in a recession demand goes down.
Petrol on the other hand is mainly used for personal commuting only.

So at peak I presume heavy oil consumption was at peak also making diesel more expensive.

But I should also imagine petrol consumption as not really wavered from peak that is why the gap as shrunken again.

Diesel as always been 1-2p more i think the 14p was a bit of a blip.

    Why is this?

    Good question!

Round the corner from where I work in my 2nd job, there is a station which over the past 2 weeks has gone froma difference of unleaded being 2-3p lower than deisel (which it had been for months), to deisel being cheaper by 3p!

Now I may be green behind the ears, but I can't recall seeing this before.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
