As advised by Rich (thank you) starting my own thread.
when I try & respond to or create an e-mail through outlook express the following error message appears it says that outlook express needs to be re-installed, then that the address book is not installed properly. have no idea how to fix this.
many thanks in advance- I know you guys are geniuses.

hi only found one file- when you click on it it says an error occured while trying to open the address book file- right clicked it and selected rename (not sure if thats what you meant) complete novice here.
I thought i'd reply here instead if that's ok.
If you can already see the wab extension then don't worry about the next bit below if not then do that so you can see the extension which is the 3 letters after the .
You might need to open an explorer window click Tools > Folder Options then the view tab and untick the box that says hide extensions for known file types and then click OK to close the window.
Now right click the file and just change the 3 letters after the . from WAB to OLD (or anything else).
Now try OE again0 -
Ok done that- O/E opens just the same, doing another search just to make sure I haven't missed a file though.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

Well thats kind of a good result then, if you google around there are probably programs that can attempt to retrieve your contacts from the old file if they're really important to you0
