Can I have Cavity Wall Insulation in a Timber framed flat?

Options
Hi

I live in a timber framed flat built in 1970. Im just about to arrange the installation of GSH however am thinkin that I should also sort out some insulation!

The exterior walls are shocking! Some plasterboard, a five inch un-insulated gap and then the wooden exterior "wall" covered in plastic cladding. The flat gets FREEZING in the winter!

Can I have any sort of cavity wall insulation installed without removing all of the plasterboard to do it? Im worried that if I don't then my central heating bills will be enormous!

Many thanks in advance for any help

It should be possible to blow normal cavity insulation into the spaces between the two panels, this would have to be done from the inside as opposed to the outide, with a hole drilled between every timber support. I've never heard of it being done, but it would certainly work on a modern timber framed property (They already have insulation though). Give a local insulation company a call and see if they would be willing to do it.

If you live in a flat, if it's possible to have it done it can only be done to the whole building & not individual flats.

You would need to get together with other flat owners to see if they were in agreement to getting it done & perhaps share the cost.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

It should be entirley possible to just do the panels making up your flat, as the filling wiuld go between the plasterboard and the ply. Even if that wasn't possible and they went for between the timber frame and the outser skin there will be fire breaks to seperate the individual flats.
