Bought a car, V5 not signed?
Options
A friend of mine just bought a second hand car from a dealer and came to realise that the V5 was not signed by the previous registered keeper. Is it ok to send off the V5 to DVLA without the signature of the previous keeper? Is it a common practise that no previous keeper's signature if the car is traded through a dealer?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Yes it's not unusual at all and no problem sending it off. It may be the case that the DVLA may possibly write to the former keeper to check but doubt they will bother.
Tell your friend not to worry and carry on regardless as normalIt's not just about the money0 -

Do you mean the V5 should be just sent off without the previous keeper's signature?0 -

The dealer should be sending off the V5c, your friend should have the new keepers supplement which they retain until the new V5c arrives. The DVLA must be busy at the moment as I'm on my 3rd week watiing for a new V50

Sent the V5 unsigned and received it back a couple of days ago. Thanks for all the input.0

I think your problem is different because you only have the garages word that they sent it off and as they didn't ask you to sign it and you didn't see it I doubt they had it.
They are probably waiting to get it themselves first or they have done and now sent it off
If theres nothing in the system you need to apply yourself and charge the garage back for the cost. It's not just about the money0 -

Just a quick note guys (ex-DVLA employee)
DVLA are inundated with V5 changes due to the reduction in cost of cherished numbers and are taking up to 7 weeks for new V5s to be issued.
One more thing:
Even though they spent thousands of pounds redesigning the V5s to have that nicely coloured illumious red section at the bottom saying that you MUST have it signed by new keeper and previous when notifying change in keeper....YOU DON'T. IT'S UNENFORCEABLE.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0
