Hi Tan
The dark circles under the eyes is a very complicated problem as it depends on your lifestyle, ageing and other health problems. I suggest you have a quick chat with your Doctor about it.
I've suffered with the dark circle under the eyes too and tried some expensive creams with limited success. Drinking lots of water (minimum of 8 glasses) is a very cheap and effective way of dealing with the problem and is also good for releasing toxins from the skin. Cutting down on caffeine drinks such as tea and coffee also helps. You should look more closely to your diet and cut out the processed foods, sugar and salt. Regular exercises can be beneficial.
However, even if you follow my tips it is still possible that you may suffer with dark circles under the eyes. In my case I was grinding my teeth late at night and this had an effect on my dark circles. Fortunately I was able to address the cause of grinding my teeth and now hardly suffer from dark circles unless I go out clubbing until the morning hours.

Unfortunately I have not seen any articles explaining the mechanisms of grinding teeth causing dark circles. Though there are countless references of "grinding teeth causing dark circles" on the net.
The book "Taking control of TMJ" by Robert O. Uppgaard gives excellent account of the TMJ problem and various solutions to prevent grinding your teeth. You can buy a copy from Amazon. Also check out TMJ - The Jaw Connection: The Overlooked Diagnosis by Greg Goddard.
My chiropractor has successfully treated my problem but this method may not be suitable for everyone. I suggest you read the books to empower yourself before speaking to the health care professionals. Each profession has its own way of dealing with the problem. It had taken me around five years of speaking to health care professionals and a lot of money to get to the stage where I'm now in control of my problem.
Tania, you may also consider the possibility that your problem could be hereditary. Has anyone in your family suffered with dark circles?

The 'traditional' explanation for bags under your eyes is lack of sleep, isn't it? So the jaw grinding could be preventing you getting the right kind of sleep, as sleep apnoea does.
so do you feel tired?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Are they bags or dark circles? Bags are sometimes caused by too heavy make up around the eyes or by too much moisturiser on the face. It blocks the tear duct and prevents adequate drainage of the eye, causing bags. Dark circles could be caused by lots of things like lack of sleep, poor diet or a medical condition. However, some people are just naturally like that and have dark circles no matter what they do.
Theres a good product in Boots by Natural Collection called Colour Corrective Foundation. It's a light pink colour and you put in on your face on top of the concealor. It works very well at evening out colour.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

I forgot to mention that you could use tea bags or cucumber slices to cover the area to reduce eyes and dark circles. Personally I've had limited success with them so can't put them on the recommended list. Also try airing your sleeping area as much as possible because the fresh air gives you a better quality of sleep.
Teeth griding or TMJ is a very complicated problem and can affect a number of muscles in the face, neck, back and head which can causes distortions to the body posture through misalignment of the head, neck and spine. Part of the trigiminal nerve passes through the jaw area which can cause several problems to the mind and body. TMJ suffers can suffer from pain an pressure from behind the eyes through sternocleidomastoid muscle. Like I said, TMJ or teeth grinding is a very complicated problem and there could be any number explanations to why it causes dark circles under the eye. Read the books I've suggested and then you would understand the situation.
Savvysue - Even with a lot of sleep you can still get dark circles and Tania has mentioned she gets a good night sleep.
blacksaturn - For some people cosmetic solution is not an option and it is usually better to deal with the source of the problem. Tania had mentioned she uses a concealer but preferred to get rid of the problem.
Good luck Tania as I think I've exhausted all my advice on this subject.

Yeah I heard of this too. Make sure the teabags are cool!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I've got bags, which have gotten better with avon triple force extra, but I'm going to try Garnier nutritionist eye cream, which is for dark circles, bags, puffiness, the works!!
I suffer from dark circles, but I think they will always be there, it's part of my genetic make up I reckon.
I'll let you know how I get on with the garnier stuff."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
Not used it myself but read somewhere that Preparation H is good for this. It's a hemmaroid (not sure of spelling) treatment, goodness only knows how someone discovered that it was good for dark circles and puffy eyes. Must have read the box wrong!! lolBeing powerful is being like a lady.....if you have to say it you ain't!0

I'm the same - dark hair, olive skin and always have dark circles (regardless of sleep, diet, stress). My dad is exactly the same - so I guess it's at least partially genetic! Clarins eye cream does help but it's not cheap. Try getting it duty free next time you or someone else goes away
Do what I do - cover ot with plenty of slap!!
