All,
Having done all the searches I am more confused about where to get my new kitchen from. Need something reasonable, but seen terrible reviews regarding Ikea, Homebase, B&Q, only leaving Wickes.
So can anyone tell me about a new kitchen they got installed recently that they liked??

Hi,
My advice will always be try a local independent kitchen specialist, you should get a better product and better advice than from a national DIY store.
Ask friends for any recommendations, otherwise look on the Miele and Neff websites to find a local dealer that is a kitchen specialist then you shouldn't go far wrong.
Good luck0 -

I thought Wickes were part of the same group as Travis Perkins????
Im definitely confused now :mad:Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0 -
I used Howdens for my kitchen, they have a good range (even better two years on from when I used them). Also, a huge advantage from them is that the units come pre built and its just a case of fitting cupboard doors and the drawers etc, much less work than if you buy flat pack from B&Q/ Homebase etc. The rep from Howdens came out to measure up and designed the kitchen to my specification.
To give you an idea, my kitchen is 12ft x 6ft ina flat. The kitchen is basic (i.e no fitted appliances) but modern and smart with a granite effect worktop. It cost £1300 supplied and delivered (with sink) and then I paid £500 to have it fitted.
You will find that most kitchen fitters have an account with Howdens. I managed to haggle about £300 off my original quote so dont accept the first price you get!
Hope this helps!0 -
we recently used Howdens too - we were lucky as a friend is a fitter with an account so he is used to dealing with them.
They sent a designer round who came up with the plans, which we tweaked a few times prior to him placing the final order - he then managed to haggle with them over what already seemed like a decent price to get a really good price
the only appliance we sourced with them was the larder fridge, everything else was sourced elsewhere.
Our fitter likes Howdens - he reckons the fact they are ready built units saves him a lot of time and also the fact that out local is only 10 minutes away, he nipped back a few times to makes changes and pick up extra bits, latches etc as we changed our mind on a couple of things mid install.
So far have been pleased with it - it looks good and the total cost was pretty low; certainly lower than was expecting to pay0 -
My kitchen came from Howdens. A few problems with damaged/missing items but as they are local & carry fitments as stock it caused no major delay.
I did complain about damaged items being supplied & as a sweetner & was given my chosen handles/knobs free of charge. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I bought mine from B&Q and fitted it myself, it was okay and design plans were spot on, I have recently fitted a kitchen for a friend, they got the units from Wickes, far superior units than B&Q IMO (and cheaper) so much so I am now fitting a kitchen for my son that was purchased from Wickes.
I have never used Howdens, my sister has and frankly the designer made a pigs ear of it with units etc. not fitting properly and then them denying it was their fault.0 -
The howdens designer is not at fault. Afterall there just the retailer, The kitchen plan should have been checked by the installer before order was placedHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0
