Vauxhall Astra Exhaust Blowing - Cost?

On the way back from the Lake District last week, I thought my Astra (52 plate, bog standard ever-other-car-on-the-road Astra) sounded a bit rough when I had my window open.
Just been at my other's half's parents, and his dad came out to say the exhaust was blowing, sounded like the front box.
If this is what's wrong, any ideas on rough cost? Assuming it's just the front box and the rest of the exhast is OK (what are the odds the whole thing will be in a bad state too?)
My brother says to take it round his as he has some putty for it (and a clamp(?)). I say that's fine for his £750 car which has to have an oil drip tray under it or it'll ruin his driveway, but my beloved Astra gets treated properly.
Still, £200 job and I'll get it fixed, £600 job and it might be the putty route...
p.s. Car sounds quite at home in the town I live now though.

Hmmmmm thanks but I would be a little concerned about it sounding chavved up? I just want the original sound back.
I'm taking it to my regular garage tomorrow and they'll do a quote before doing any work.0 -
find out where its blowing first, if its from the front pipe you will be pleased to know thats where your CAT lives as well so your looking a minimum of £180 ish for the parts alone then add fitting , if its just the flexi section good exhaust places (not quick fit) will be able to weld a new one in for about £40, if its no tthe front then its centre or back box they are the cheaper bits.
If you know anyone thats handy with a welder then get them to have a look at just cutting out the affected section and weld in a patch for now ;-)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Just to add if you have a Irmesher exhaust back box (twin chrome pipes) its most likely the bracket from the backbox to the centre section that has rotted away.. again for this you could do with knowing someone that is handy with a welderIf it doesnt pay rent sell it.
