Hi
We are interested in going back to Florida this year but want something a little more queiter than the Theme Parks. The kids lovely snorkelling/swimming.
We are thinking somewhere around the gulf coast (Clearwater/Tampa Bay) that area
Does this sound like a good idea with a 13 and 9 year old in May/June?

Hi we was in orlando followed by Clearwater a couple of years ago with our daughters then (11 and 13yrs).. They had a good time in Clearwater but they didn't try snorkelling there, just the pool really and the occassional dip in the sea. We did go to Busch gardens from here which to be honest could do with a re-vamp.... was a bit of a let down after the Disney parks to be honest, but nonetheless still worth the visit. Kids were a little disappointed after Orlando pools staying open till 11, but in Clearwater closing much earlier. There are loadsa places to eat out in Clearwater and I thoroughly enjoyed it here after a hectic time in orlando. Hope this helps0

Having lived in the area for a while, Clearwater is a *beautiful* beach. The gulf coast isn't really for snorkeling, that's more something you do in the Florida Keys. Clearwater is a big tourist (and locals) spot, so it's going to be crowded in June. There are a lot of hotels right near the beach.
If you want a little more quiet, you can stay in St. Pete Beach. There is a resort called the Tradewinds there that is very nice.
Also, Treasure Island is a nice area that is not as crowded as Clearwater.
If you're looking for a beach trip, that is definitely a top spot and beautiful area!0 -
We went to Clearwater a few years ago, it was a bit quiet. The beaches were ok but nothing to write home about. If you wanted to go the Disney for the day then a two and half drive down the I4 not fun.
As stated above go somewhere like St Petes, much better.
DWhat goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0
